McCarron signs with CAPERS Women's Basketball

The Cape Breton University Women's Basketball Program is happy to announce that Jesse McCarron will be joining our CAPER Family. Jesse is a 5'9" guard from New Glascow, Nova Scotia who plays for North Nova Education Centre and well as for the Nova Scotia Provincial Team. She will pursue a Bachelor of Science while playing for the CAPERS beginning in the 2026-27 basketball season.

 

Jesse chose CBU for her U SPORTS journey because she believes that it's the best place for her to improve, continue her basketball career and achieve the most success.  "I really enjoyed my time visiting with the team and getting to know the girls," Jesse shared with us. "Combining the academic component with the basketball and the team and it felt like the best fit for me." 

 

Jesse sees herself contributing through hard work, energy, and effort in every aspect of what she does. "I like to compete and bring energy to my team."

Head Coach Fabian McKenzie shared that he identified Jesse early in her career. "What stood out was how hard she played and the energy she brought to the team," stated McKenzie. "As she has grown throughout her high school and provincial team career her compete level has consistently risen. In my 27 years of watching high school basketball in the Maritimes she is one of the most competitive players I have ever seen. She runs the floor hard, attacks the rim hard and there is not a loose ball or rebound she won't pursue plus her defensive effort is always at maximum intensity." 

 

Coach McKenzie noted that Jesse is constantly working to improve on every aspect of her game and that she is fun to coach. "In practice or in games she is talking non-stop, encouraging and pushing her teammates," added McKenzie. "Added to all of these things is the fact that she is a tremendous young lady. We can't wait to add her character and compete level to our program."
