CAPERS take the win over visiting Tigers
(Sydeny, NS) The CBU CAPERS defeated the Dalhousie Tigers in Atlantic University Sport Men's basketball action at the Sullivan Fieldhouse on Saturday, January 17.
The CAPERS started strong in the first quarter, but the Tigers crept up and took the lead 18-17 at the end of the first quarter. DAL kept the lead until the 5-minute mark when the CAPERS moved ahead to tie the game at 29-29. Cape Breton went on a bit of a roll to bring the gap to 10 and head to the locker room at half ahead 43-33.
CBU came out strong at the beginning of the second half, dominating the office and extending the gap to 15 by the mid-point of the quarter. The Tigers made a few hoops and the quarter ended 56-44 in favour of the CAPERS. The final stanza saw the Tigers put forth a good fight, but the CAPERS were strong on both ends of the court and took the win 74-61.
Riley Stweart dropped 14 for the Tigers while Giovanni Ajiamah added 12.
Stefan Anisko, the Subways of CBRM Player of the Game, topped the scoring for the CAPERS with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Liai Tong contributed 14 points and 9 rebounds for the win.
The CAPERS will be back in action next weekend against the Memorial Seahawks. Friday's games are at 6pm for the women and 8pm for the men. They will face off again on Saturday at 1:00 and 3:00.
