Anisko and Thomas sign with CEBL teams
The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) rolled out "Signing Day 2026" across their social media platforms on April 8 at 2pm AST, identifying 2 U SPORTS or CCAA signings for each team. The partnership between the CEBL and U SPORTS allows high level student-athletes to sign a contract that permits them to return to university play after the CEBL season.
Stefan Anisko, who just finished his third season with the Cape Breton University (CBU) CAPERS, was selected by the Edmonton Stingers. Stefan is a 6'5" guard from Caledonia, Ontario. Prior to arriving at Cape Breton University, Stefan played a season with Mohawk College where he earned the Mohawk Rookie of the Year and the OCAA 6th Man of the Year Award. Stefan has made an impact in all 3 of his years at CBU. This past season, after recovering from a pre-season foot injury, Stefan's dedication and off-season work quickly showed as he became one of the country's top shooting guards and scorers. He posted 7 games with points in the twenties and 3 double-doubles, including an outstanding 40-point game in the regular season home finale. Stefan's performance earned him the CBU men's basketball MVP and an Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Conference First-Team All-Star. His production has improved every season as he has evolved into a leader for the CAPERS both on and off the court. When asked about signing with the Edmonton Stingers, Stefan replied, "I'm thankful for the opportunity. I'm just focused on improving and getting better every day."
Tayshaun Thomas, a 6'4" guard who just finished his rookie season with CBU, was selected by his hometown Montréal Alliance. Before arriving at Cape Breton University, Tayshaun had a great career at CEJEP Champlain Saint-Lambert in his hometown, where he earned an MVP award as well as a leadership award. Once joining the CAPERS, he immediately became a key contributor. Tayshaun finished this rookie season averaging 9 points per game, 5 rebounds per game, and was one of the top steals defenders in the conference. His performance in the 2025-26 season earned him the CAPERS men's basketball Rookie of the Year Award and a place on the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Conference All-Rookie Team. "I'm just grateful for the opportunity to play for the Montreal Alliance," stated Tayshaun. "Being from Montreal, it really means a lot."
Head Coach Matt Skinn shared, "The signings of both Stefan and Tayshaun are a testament to their hard work and improvement during their time at CBU. Each of them is incredibly hard working and high character individuals who deserve this opportunity. This also shows the positive direction of the Men's basketball program at CBU with 4 players being drafted or signed to the CEBL in the last 3 seasons. We are excited to see what's next!"
The CEBL season will begin in early May. For complete details, please visit the CEBL website.
Best of luck Stefan and Tayshaun! Your CAPER family will be cheering you on!
