Joaquin Yakubu committed to run for CBU Varsity Track & Field next season
The CBU CAPERS track & field program is happy to announce that Joaquin Yakubu will be joining the program for the 2026-2027 season.
Joaquin is a 6'0" sprinter hailing from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He joins the program from Woodlawn High School and Grit Athletics. A talented and dedicated sprinter, he brings both experience and great potential to the sprints group and is poised to make a strong impact on the team.
Assistant Coach Ben Krilow has worked with Joaquin in the past. "Having coached Joaquin at the club level in Dartmouth, I'm eager to continue supporting him as he develops as both a student and an athlete," Krilow shared. "With his dedication, strong work ethic, and experience, he's sure to be a valuable teammate and a standout addition to the sprints group."
Once arriving at CBU in the fall, Joaquin plans to major in communications. "I chose CBU because of not only the track team that has a great roster but also the amazing coaches," Joaquin stated when asked why he chose CBU for his athletic and academic journey. "I'm also excited about the academic side of it. Plus, I've heard how beautiful Cape Breton is."
Joaquin sees himself competing in the 60m and 300m sprints and the 4 x 200m relay. "I'd like to work more on my acceleration more so I can compete better in the 60m."
Welcome to the CAPER family, Joaquin. We're excited to have you join us at CBU in the fall.
