CAPERS WIN OPENER!

Sydney, NS - It was an action packed first day at the CAPERS 2016 FALL CLASSIC tournament Thursday at Centre 200 in Sydney. There were four games to kick off the preseason men's tournament. 

Game 1 - The AUS Acadia Axemen kicked off the tournament with a convincing 108-87 win over the ACAA Holland Hurricanes at the 12:00pm game. The Wolfville squad got big games from Nick DePalma, Bedford, NS (25 pts include 7of 8 from 3pt land) and Erik Nissen, Quispamsis, NB (34pts and 11 boards). Travis Adams (Halifax, NS) led the Hurricanes with 26 pts.

Game 2 - The St.Mary's Huskies battled the UPEI Panthers in the second game of the day. The Halifax based team beat the Panthers 81-65. The Huskies used a strong second half to pull away and take the win.

Game 3 - In the first game of the evening, St. Francis Xavier beat Thetford Prep 82-77. It was a close battle most of the game between the AUS school and the school from Quebec. The X-men were led offensively by Kevin Bercy, (Kanata, ON) with 17 point and 14 boards.  Thetford Prep were led by Louis Allain (Montreal, QC) with 19 points in the loss.

Game 4 - In the nightcap, the hometown CAPERS took on American rivals University of Maine Fort Kent. The CAPERS got off to a strong start and led 40-30 at the half in front of their home fans. This was the first game in Sydney for the road warrior CAPERS who started their preseason schedule with long road trips. The CAPERS extended their lead to 13 entering the fourth quarter. The CAPERS were led by Jack MacAulay(Charlottetown, PEI) with 21 points on 5 three ponters. The CAPERS also received strong performances from seniors Seth Amoah (Montreal, QC) with 12 points and Kenny Jean-Louis (Montreal, QC) with 13 points. The Bengals were led by Rosevelt Smith Jr. with 29points.The final score was CAPERS 81 UMFK 77

All 8 teams will be in action tomorrow with aother full slate of games scheduled for 1,3,6 and 8.
