Nolan Neville Signs with CAPERS: A Lifelong Connection to CBU
According to his parents, Nolan Neville has been "running in circles since he was a little boy" leaving a path on the lawn as he moved. Head Coach John Hudec has been watching Neville during his high school track career and has recently signed him on as a new recruit to the CBU Varsity Track and Field team as a distance runner.
Coach Hudec made his decision to add Nolan to his new recruit list after watching Nolan perform well during the Nova Scotia high school cross country and track and field seasons and felt bringing Nolan on board was a good decision for the team. "Nolan stands out amongst the local track and field athletes," states Hudec. "He has the attitude and work ethic that I look for as a varsity coach. It will be exciting to have him on the team."
"CBU has always been in the back of my head", reflects Nolan, as an option for his university pathway. As a recent graduate of Sydney Academy, Nolan was the recipient of the CBU Chancellor's Scholarship and is excited to come on board to join the CAPERS Athletics Family and pursue a Bachelor of Science, focusing in the area of biology. "I didn't know what a university track & field program was like until I chatted with John. This had an influence on my decision," Nolan added. He feels he will bring spirit and competitiveness to the team and looks forward to getting with the student leadership program with the CBU student Union while not on the track.
This new CAPER's competitive running journey started back in grade 6 where a Physical Education Teacher at Whitney Pier Memorial Junior High School identified him during a fun track and field activity day. Since then, LeeAnn Astephen and her father John have mentored and coached Nolan in the areas of cross country and track and field.
Nolan's parents feel that he will strive in the area of balancing academics and athletics as he's always been a multi-sport athlete while performing very well academically and being co-president of the student council in high school. He's used to being busy and has managed that really well so far. "We're not worried about it".
Nolan is looking forward to starting his academic and athletic experience at the university that has been in his back yard while growing up. "CBU has been a part of my life forever".
