CAPERS Remain Undefeated!

In AUS women's soccer action at Wickwire Field, the Dalhousie Tigers and Cape Breton Capers
played to a 2-2 draw after hard play and plenty of chances for both teams.
The Tigers wasted little time getting on the board in the first half when Haley Birrell (Hammonds
Plains, NS) put one in from the box in the fourth minute after some pretty passing to make it 1-0.
The Capers had a good chance for the equalizer in the ninth minute when Amelia Carlini
(Ottawa, ON) had a partial break, but her kick sailed wide. The Tigers almost added another in
the 14th minute when the kick of Meagan McKenna (Halifax, NS) from just outside the box hit
the crossbar. Dalhousie eventually did get a second goal in the 23rd minute when Maya
Venkataraman (Summerland, BC) weaved through three Cape Breton defenders and scored a
beautiful goal from inside the box to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, both the Tigers and the Capers traded chances back and forth in an effort to
grab the momentum in the last 45 minutes. The Capers broke through when Tamara Brown
(Whitby, ON) scored in the 64th minute off a great burst of speed and a great kick from inside
the box to make it 2-1. Cape Breton continued to press to tie the match while the Tigers had a
couple of good opportunities to put the match away. In the 89th minute, Cape Breton's pressure
paid off when Rebecca Hanna (Howie Centre, NS) scored from just inside the box to end the
match in a draw
The shots on goal were 12-9 in favour of the Tigers. Kate Fines (Halifax, NS) made six saves for
the Tigers while Lysianne Trottier (Barrie, ON) stopped five shots for the Capers. Birrell received
Subway P{layer of the Game honours.
Both teams conclude their regular seasons tomorrow at 1 pm, with the Tigers taking on the
UPEI Panthers at Wickwire and the Capers facing the Saint Mary's Huskies in Halifax.
