The Cape Breton Capers sprinted back in the fourth quarter to defeat the Saint Mary's Huskies 87-84 in AUS men's basketball Friday night at The Tower.
Jimmy Dorsey had 25 points and Paris Carter 21 as the CIS No. 4 Capers, 9-1, outscored the Huskies 26-11 in the final 10 minutes.
Phil Nkrumah added 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for Cape Breton. Cameron John-Proctor had 13 points.
Joey Haywood had 25 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists for the 10th-ranked Huskies, 8-3.
Mark McLaughlin collected 15 and Miguel Pink and Simon Marr 11 apiece for SMU. The two play again today at The Tower.
SMU led 73-61 after outscoring their guests 30-11 in the third quarter.
X-Men 76, Axemen 66: At Wolfville, third-ranked St. Francis Xavier pushed to 10-0 while Acadia lost its seventh straight game to drop to 4-7.
Christian Upshaw had 20, Jeremy Dunn 17 and Alberto Rodriguez 15 for the X-Men.
Alex Traikov had 19 and Casey Fox and Anthony Sears 13 each for the Axemen.
In women's play, it was:
Capers 74, Huskies 59: At The Tower, CIS No. 5 Cape Breton got 20 points from reigning conference MVP Kelsey Hodgson for a 12-0 conference record.
Kari Everett added 17 for CBU while Karmen Brown had 12. Everett had a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Huskies, 6-7, got 21 points from Justin Colley and 10 from Rebecca Nuttall.
X-Women 80, Axewomen 75: At Wolfville, Sheryl Chisholm had 24 and Kirsten Jones 19 for the X-Women, 8-3. St. F.X. leads the season series 3-0.
Alise Brown had 18, Sondra Medley 15 and Jasmine Parent 13 for the Axewomen, 3-9. Acadia, up by 11 in the first half, has lost seven in a row.
Varsity Reds 67, Panthers 28: At Charlottetown, Amanda Sharpe led the winners with 25 points. UNB is 5-7.
The Panthers, 0-11, only scored three points in the first and fourth quarters. Victoria Walker led UPEI with nine.
